Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist Dr. Lana Boodhoo

Based in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Lana Boodhoo is a heart specialist who subspecializes in heart rhythm disorders. She has conducted extensive research in areas of atrial fibrillation, the world’s most prevalent heart rhythm abnormality. For this work she has received recognition as an innovative medical professional during her career. Her protocol for nurse-led cardioversion under sedation has been referenced in publications and adopted by a number of hospitals in the United Kingdom. Dr. Lana Boodhoo also performed the first ablation of atrial fibrillation in Trinidad and Tobago, was the first to use a 3D mapping system for arrhythmia ablation in that country, and founded the region’s first public sector Heart Rhythm Clinic, located at San Fernando General Hospital. She has managed an independent cardiology and electrophysiology consultancy since 2010.

A member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Council of Caribbean Cardiac Society, Dr. Lana Boodhoo’s educational background includes a bachelor of medicine from the University of the West Indies and a doctorate in medicine from the University of London. She subsequently specialized in cardiology at Mersey Deanery in Liverpool, during which time she focused her studies on electrophysiology. Her personal interests include cooking, travel and gardening.
